WSPD Officer Stephen L. Amos II Scholarship

(Application administered by the Walkertown Civic Club Scholarship Chair) Deadline is March 1, 2019

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE STEPHEN L. AMOS II SCHOLARSHIP?

  1. Dependent children of a sworn Law Enforcement Officer currently employed, in good standing, with any Forsyth County Agency or Thomasville Police Department.
  2. Sworn Law Enforcement Officer currently employed, in good standing, with any Forsyth County Agency or Thomasville Police Department.
  3. Must major in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice at a two or four year accredited college or university (law school not included).
  4. Must have a current minimum GPA of 2.5.


WHO SELECTS THE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS?

The scholarship application will be processed through the Walkertown Civic Club Scholarship Chair. The Scholarship Chair will redact applications prior to the committee’s review.

Eight family members of Stephen L. Amos II and two non-family members will select scholarship recipients. All decisions of the selection committee are final.


HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED?

Three scholarships will be awarded on a one-time basis and are not renewable. Two $550 scholarships to students attending a four-year college or university and one $225 scholarship to a student attending a two-year vocational school or college.


HOW IS THE SCHOLARSHIP PAID?

Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the college or university Financial Aid Office. The recipient must provide proof of enrollment for fall 2019 semester, their Student ID number and the Financial Aid Office address.


HOW DO STUDENTS APPLY AND WHAT IS REQUIRED?

Complete the Scholarship Application in its entirety. Sign and Date the Application. The qualifying LE parent must also sign and date the application

  • Enclose a typewritten essay (on 8½ x 11 paper) of 200 words or less outlining why you have chosen a law enforcement career. Include any special projects relating to your interest in law enforcement and any other factors you wish the committee to consider. Sign and Date the essay.
  • Enclose three (3) letters of recommendation.
  • High School Seniors: Two sources must be from current high school teachers, coaches, or guidance counselor and one source may be from a non-family member such as employer, law enforcement personnel, civic/community organizations etc. Family member letters of reference will not be considered. Note: All three letters may come from current high school personnel listed above.
    • Current sworn officer: Two sources must be from law enforcement command staff or direct supervisor with your current agency and one may be from a prior law enforcement agency, civic/community organizations etc. Family member letters of reference will not be considered. Note: All three letters may come from current agency personnel.
    • Enclosed Sealed Transcripts
      • High School students must provide a high school transcript that includes 1st and 2nd quarter and GPA.
      • Current Sworn officer must provide a college transcript that includes the fall 2018 semester and GPA.
      • Scholarship applications must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2019 and mailed to:
